e-Sword is a fast and effective way to study the Bible. e-Sword is feature rich and user friendly with more capabilities than you would expect in a free software package. The fact that e-Sword is free is just one of the blessings and does not speak of the quality of the software. I make my living writing software and I believe I have put forth my best effort in this endeavor. The real work, however, was put in by the godly men and women who devoted countless years creating the texts that have been made available for our benefit.
BerBible is simplified freeware that includes the complete ESV Bible at no cost (English Standard Version =A92001 by Good News & Crossway
Publishers). The learning curve is all but trivial because only the essentials are shown with the getting started non-scholar layout:
- go directly to a specific verse
- find verses with one or more words
Word/phrase searching is extremely fast, intuitive, and very flexible to find what you are looking for. On most computers, it is running
immediately after you launch it, and incremental searching is as fast as you can type.
The small 1.8 meg Starter Kit download includes the program, ESV with translators' notes, and extensive help and documentation:
- 120+ step tutorial oriented to less experienced users
- 70 step tutorial of New Features for experienced users
- Context sensitive help, FAQ's, hover-tips, e-support, and more
- Mini-tutorial with 6 steps that is 90% of what you need to know to use basic features.
BerBible also works great on obsolete computers that are too slow for software oriented to Bible scholars. It doesn't assume a high resolution
monitor and latest hardware. Its small download size is optimized for people with a slow, unreliable, and/or expensive Internet connection.
Free Bible InterFaith Explorer

InVerse Scripture Memorization
Memorizing Scripture verses is a laudable ambition, but a beginner can find it overwhelming. InVerse simplifies this, containing over 15,300 verses preloaded in 2,800 of the
best known Scripture passages from 11 different Bible translations. As your proficiency on a passage improves from Just Started to Good and then Mastered,
you can categorize it for Less Frequent or Least Frequent recitation. Veteran memorizers benefit by being able to organize scores of passages between Learning, Learned, and Archive.
Inverse lets you choose whether to see just the reference (e.g. John 3:16 [Topic:Grace] NIV), a hint, or the passage being memorized. If you want a better
sense of the meaning, a quick mouse click will show the context as it appears in the Bible, with verses that come before and/or after.
Inverse has a very simple, intuitive user interface (no typing!). An extensive tutorial (100+ steps) is oriented to less experienced computer users.
Early in the tutorial, each and every mouse click is described. Detailed Help is provided, including context sensitive help.
